24-year-old Moroccan athlete Soufiane El Bakkali, in 2018 broke the fastest world time in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the Monaco diamond league finishing in under 8 minutes.
Since finishing 4th in the Rio Olympics and getting silver in the world champion athletics in 2017. El Bakkali has won a 1500m race in 3:34:51 at the Marseille international athletics meeting on 3rd September 2020 and also finished third in the 1500m at the Doha Diamond League meeting three weeks later, recording his best time over the distance of 3:33.45.
With all these achievements, he made a good start after a long pause due to the coronavirus pandemic.
El Bakkali continues to train in Ifrane, Morocco preparing for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. where he hopes to become the first Moroccan Olympic gold winner since Hicham El Guerrouj in 2004.
